Snow Squall Warning Issued

Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
Snow squalls are occurring. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

A snow squall has developed off of Lake Michigan and northwestern Lake Huron and is currently affecting St Joseph Island and the Thessalon area. The snow squall is expected to shift slowly eastward tonight. Snowfall accumulations of near 5 cm per 12 hours are likely along with very low visibilities in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. Snow Squall Warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
