T-Birds Win Fifth Straight

Sunday night marked the final game of the month of November for the Soo Thunderbirds as they were up against their International Bridge rivals, the Soo Eagles at the Essar Centre.

The T-Birds went on to edge the Eagles 5-3 and improved their winning streak to five straight.

“I thought we started off slow, but as the game progressed we started to pick it up a bit,” said T-Birds defenceman Caleb Boman, who had a goal (power play) and an assist on the night.

Boman’s power play goal at 9:44 into the second, also proved to be the game winner.

“I always like to score goals,” continued Boman. “It was just a special day.”

It was also announced on Sunday that Boman has committed to Niagara University in NCAA Division 1 hockey.

“Niagara made me feel welcome,” concluded Boman. “They showed me a bunch of things and that’s about it.”

Matt Mitchell and Zach Senecal also had two points nights for the T-Birds with a goal and an assist each while single goals went to Mark Tassone and Jake Behse (empty net). Single assists went to Brandon Grandinetti, Joey Miller, Ryan Mulligan, Matt Caruso, Nathan Hebert and Brett Jeffries.

Alex DiBacco had a goal (power play) and an assist for the Eagles while Jake Saxton also had a two point night with a pair of helpers. Jake Palmerio and Reed Gregory had the other goals for Sault, Michigan while Jake Hernandez had one assist.

T-Birds goalie Mario Culina made 18 saves for the victory while Jack Hickey for the Eagles gave up 4 goals on 27 shots.

T-Birds hit the road on Friday, December 4th when they take on the Elliot Lake Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. from Centennial Arena.

NOTE: Soo Thunderbirds overage forward Nathan Hebert was named the team’s Corix player of the month for November. During this month, Hebert recorded 10 points through 8 games played.
