Jim Boniferro, President and CEO of Boniferro Mill Works and John Goldthorp, 1st Vice President, United Steel Workers Local 1-1000, Wood Council announced today that the workers at Boniferro Mill Works in Sault Ste. Marie voted 86% in favour of a new Collective Agreement. The current agreement was due to expire at midnight on Friday December 31, 2015.
The new agreement runs from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2020.
“This agreement is another example of the team at Boniferro Mill Works understanding the goals and long term vision of the Company. Many companies in the Forest Industry did not survive the latest downturn in the market. The workers at the mill recognized the efforts made to keep all employees working since 2003. Every worker has contributed to our success to date.” stated Jim Boniferro, President and CEO of Boniferro Mill Works. The mill just completed a $3,000,000 expansion with assistance from Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC) funding and will be starting up a pallet
component plant in January 2016.
John Goldthorp added, “This agreement is a sign of confidence in the mill and a commitment from our members to contribute to the recovery through these tough economic times. Our members are encouraged to see the investments being made to new equipment and processes.”
The five year contract offers workers improved wages, work benefits and pension provisions. The agreement also offers increased security and clear seniority rights
