(1958-2015) – On December 11th, 2015, in his 58th year, Veijo passed away at the Sault Area Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Heidi, his children Aaron (Brandi), Tamara (Robert Wong), and Stephanie (fiancé Rami Bakir); his little grand-babies Miia, Kai, and Lily who gave him so much joy in his last years; his parents Leo and Toini; his brothers and sisters Sakari (Jane), Sinikka (Timo Kuoppala), Sam (Maarit), Lea (Hanski Hakkarainen), Leila (Geoff Tyrrel), Eric (Cheryl), Kenny (Jane), Julia (Bill Blomquist), Liisa (Stan McDaniels), and Katri (Jeff Biggar); and his mother-in-law Brigitte Keller. He is predeceased by his brother Jari, father-in-law Ernest Keller, and brother-in-law Perry Keller. Veijo will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Veijo touched many hearts in his life as any who met him were won over with his love, compassion, and smile. He was always quick to reach out to those who needed his strength. He struggled and fought through a life-altering accident for twenty-six years and we are all grateful to have had this time to visit with him, hug him, and be loved by him. He is now resting peacefully with his Father in Heaven and though we miss him dearly, we are comforted that his suffering has ended.

Special thanks to Veijo’s nurses and caregivers who were such a close part of our family’s life and loved Veijo dearly. There are too many to list but we acknowledge each and every one of you.

In particular we’d like to thank Sharon, Veijo’s devoted caregiver for over 20 years, and Nathalie, Fern, Paula, Ben, Patricia, and Alisia who cared for him in his last years. We’d also like to thank all of service and health care providers who did so much to help Veijo and our family. Thank you Dr. Hirvi and the SAH staff who cared for him while he was in the hospital.

A visitation will be held at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Wednesday, December 16 , 2015 from 6-9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11 am at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church (12 Fish Hatchery Rd.).

Memorial donations to ARCH and the Sault Area Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
