A few times a year radio stations have “rating periods” that’s when a sample audience is measured for a set period of time to see how many people are listening – or not listening in some cases. It allows radio stations to set their advertising rates based on the results of the ratings period.
The ratings were released yesterday and there’s a lot of smiling faces at Rogers Radio in Sault Ste. Marie.
Once again the two Canadian stations control the local radio market. Both Country 104.3 and KISS 100.5 are tuned in by almost 50 percent of the market. “A very solid performance by our two radio properties Country 104.3 and KiSS 100.5. Combined we own almost 50% of the radio tuning in this market so we are very proud of that and thankful for such great listeners.” said Scott Sexsmith, General Manager of Rogers Radio locally.
Country 104.3 led by morning man Jeff McNeice rated as the most listened to station taking 31 percent of listeners. Country 104.3 won all demos A12+ and A25-54 while KISS is number 1 with females.
American stations do not participate in Canadian ratings books however stations that don’t subscribe to the service is measured as “other”
“I could not be happier with results ,along with the on air team of Greg Alexander and Gary Creighton. We did it!!!!!!” Jeff McNeice said.
“When you can deliver that kind of an audience to an advertiser that has a certain appeal. We have always been in the business of over delivering to our clients and this kind of performance by our stations will help us build on that foundation with our client base. We have a solid team here who just love to do great radio every single day. It’s all about engaging the audience with strong content and I think we do a pretty good job of that and these results today tells us that we are certainly on the right track.” Sexsmith told Saultonline.com
McNeice added, “I attribute a ton of our gains to country folks in sharp suits…leaving the cowboy hats aside…and drawing in that core group of loyal fans and a new generation of country music lovers. We witnessed a lot of this here in the Soo with Sold Out Country 104.3 sponsored hugely popular Canadian Mainstream artists like High Valley…DALLAS Smith and most recently Tim Hicks Get a little crazy Tour..with Cold Creek County and Jason Benoit!
Now we’re bringing back the amazing popular Johnny Reid March 9th to the Essar center!”
Ratings are conducted in the fall and spring of each year by Numeris, formerly known as BBM Canada.
