After a valiant fight and with her family surrounding her, Sandy left us all heart broken and devastated on Saturday, December 19, 2015 due to complications from Alzheimer’s. Sandy was 72 years of age. Loving wife, best friend and soul-mate of Ed.
I will love you forever and a day and then some. We shall meet again my love and do this dance one more time.
Cherished and loving Mom of Helen Walkerley and Gail, Jennifer and Stephen Walkerley-Chapman, Luke and Rochelle Walkerley. Most wonderful Nana of Samuel & Sara (Dad Sandy Eastman); Alee & Harley Chapman and Zoe Walkerley. Little sister of Gloria Sherrett (Jim). Being met in Heaven by her parents Mary-Ellen and John Hooper, brothers David and Thomas. Sandy also leaves behind her fur babies Maggie and Lacy. Loving Aunt to Les, Denise and the late Dennis. Sandy will be missed by her good friends Marlene and Andy Brown.
Sandy was born in Pictou County, Nova Scotia September 28, 1943. She moved to Toronto in her early teens with her Mother and sister. One of her favourite memories was summers spent with her Dad in Nova Scotia. When Ed first saw Sandy at the age of 14 he told his friend he didn’t know who she was but loved her already and was going to marry her one day. They married in 1961 and through all of life’s struggles still loved each other and made each other laugh. They relocated to St. Joseph Island in 1969 and then to Sault Ste. Marie in 1982.
During her lifetime Sandy was a step Mom to many of her children’s friends, a wonderful and caring friend to many; a factory worker, custodian, volunteer fire fighter, Avon distributor, swim instructor, past president of The Eagle’s Women’s Auxiliary #3991, Cub Scout leader but most of all she was our amazing Momma. If there was one thing we knew it was that our Mom always loved our Dad and us more than anything.
She was a beautiful person with wonderful blue eyes, a great smile, an awesome laugh and a heart so big and caring. Our Mom was one of the proudest Canadians ever and loved her Nova Scotia heritage. Our family will be lost without her and we will never truly recover from losing her way to soon.
A private family service followed by cremation will take place.
Thank you to everyone who dropped by, brought food, called or messaged us. Your support was very thoughtful and appreciated.
In Sandy’s memory we ask that you hug a loved one today and tell them how much you love them.
Memorial donations can be made to the SSM Humane Society and would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements entrusted to Damignani Burial, Cremation and Transfer Service (Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, 705-450-0969).
