Sault Ste. Marie will be host to 200 of Northern Ontario’s Cadets competing in the 2015 Cadet Biathlon Northern Ontario Completion at the Algoma Rod & Gun Club this weekend. Sea, Army and Air Cadets will be representing communities of the Western, and Eastern parts of Northern Ontario.
This Olympic-style competition is the Second of Four Stages and will consist of 200 athletes between the ages of 12 to 18 cross-country skiing 1-2 km loops through the challenging terrain of Sault Ste Marie and shooting .22-calibre rifles at falling-plate targets in the range stadium.
These cadets will travel from locations as far West as Red Lake, East, Renfrew and as far North as Kapuskasing to compete in this competition. The top cadet teams and individuals of this event will compete again in Sault Ste Marie on February 13th and 14th in the Regional Competition which will be for top awards in the Province of Ontario.
The Fourth and Final Stage will be the National Cadet Biathlon held in Val Cartier, Quebec and will feature the top cadets in Canada.
When: Saturday, January 30, 2016 10:30 to 3:00 p.m. for relay races.
Sunday, January 31, 201 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for individual races.
