At a ceremony held at noon today, John R. Koster, Scotiabank Community Branch Manager, along with Craig Chorney, Northern Ave. Branch Manager, presented Clyde Healey, VCM Committee Chairman, with a cheque for $15,000 to advance the funding of the VCM Project.
Mr. Koster noted that this donation is one way that the Scotiabank’s philanthropic program can support the community by thanking veterans, service members, and their families for all of their sacrifices to keep us all safe and secure.
Mr. Healey stated “On behalf of the committee, veterans, and supporters, we thank Scotiabank and John Koster for their support of this very important local initiative. Scotiabank, as a member of the larger banking sector, is demonstrating community leadership and initiative with this significant donation. We also appreciate that John has indicated that Scotiabank’s commitment does not stop here. This is a great example of how the banking institutions, businesses, corporations, and individuals can be part of this community project to recognize and honour veterans.”
The VCM project is designed to recognize all men and women who have volunteered to serve with the Canadian, Allied, and NATO Armed Forces. The structure and granite markers purchased for individuals will provide a formal and lasting tribute to those who served and are serving from Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area. Details are on the website www.thosewhoserved.ca and on facebook at facebook.com.
