VEX IQ Robotics Design System

Elementary school students will descend upon Sault College’s Health and Wellness facility (F-Wing) on January 9th, 2016 for the inaugural Northern Ontario VEX IQ Regional Qualifying Event. Twenty teams from 14 schools will come together for an action-packed day of robotic basketball using robots created from the VEX IQ Robotics Design System.  Spectator admission is free, with free parking in the Sault College J-South parking lot.  Round Robin Teamwork and Skills Challenge Matches run from 9:45am to 2:45pm, with the playoff finals happening from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.

The top four or five teams from this event will earn invitations to the Ontario Provincial IQ Championships in St. Catharines, February 20th, 2016, and teams will then attempt to earn invitations to the VEX Robotics World Championships, in April, 2016.  Worldwide, 20,000+ teams from 25 countries will battle for berths to this World event.

This local qualifying event is made possible by the incredible support of TenarisAlgomaTubes, the Algoma District School Board, Sault College, The Professional Engineers of Ontario (Algoma Chapter), Staples, and United Steelworkers Local 2724.  Volunteers from Sault College, Tenaris, ADSB and local schools have graciously donated hundreds of hours to put on this annual event.
