Tourism Northern Ontario, in partnership with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Corporation and the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS) is proud to present the Northwestern Ontario Forum for Food, Farms & Tourism in Thunder Bay on Tuesday, January 19.
Highlights include trade exhibits, educational presentations about culinary tourism and marketing local food products, and an open discussion about developing a culinary identity for the region with award-winning Chef Jamie Kennedy and participants from across the province.
Culinary tourism is an initiative Tourism Northern Ontario will be moving forward with in order to diversify the sector and bring new visitors to the region. “Over one third of tourist spending worldwide is devoted to food and an impressive 77% of U.S. leisure travelers or 131 million tourists are classified as food tourists,” said David MacLachlan, Executive Director of Tourism Northern Ontario. “Everyone likes to eat and more and more they’re looking for authentic food experiences.”
DINE Magazine will be in attendance, covering the conference from start to finish. Tourism Northern Ontario looks forward to working with DINE in order to further promote culinary tourism in the North. DINE magazine is Toronto’s leading magazine for reaching active food lovers who enjoy the dining out experience. Sara Waxman, renowned taste-maker and travel journalist, brings more than 30 years of knowledge to the table, and then invites the reader to join her, whether at restaurants in Toronto, or around the globe. Senior Editor and Contributing Writer, Adam Waxman will be on site to chronicle the event and will stay on in Thunder Bay to further explore the region’s culinary offerings.
Anyone with an interest in promoting the awareness, production, sales or value of foods produced in the region is welcome to attend. Tickets for the one-day event are available now at www.nwofoodforum.ca.
