On January 1, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the town of Blind River.

At 12:15 p.m., a traffic stop was initiated on Causley Street. The investigation revealed the driver was suspended. Christopher BLACK, 31 years of age, from Blind River, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle while Suspended, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 2, 2016.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On January 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a vehicle that had been reported stolen overnight from a Blind River residence in the 100 block of Woodward Avenue. The vehicle was a brown 2008 Buick Enclave which was located a short time later in the ditch off of Wellington Street, Blind River.

OPP CHARGE FEMALE WITH STUNT DRIVING
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On January 2, 2016, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Causley Street in the town of Blind River. At approximately 2:10 p.m., an eastbound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result the vehicle was stopped for “Stunt Driving”.

The driver, Sonia GAWRI, 41 years of age from Woodbridge, Ontario, was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. Her driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was also seized and impounded for seven days. She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on March 2, 2016.
DRIVER CHARGED WITH DRIVE SUSPENDED
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On January 2, 2016, 2015, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 in the town of Blind River.
At 3:25 p.m., a traffic stop was initiated on Causley Street. The investigation revealed the male driver was suspended. Laurence FOREMAN, 29 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with Driving while Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on March 2, 2016.

OPP CHARGE MALE WITH DRUG OFFENCE
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On January 3, 2015 at 11:31 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 at Mississauga First Nation and conducted a traffic stop.
As a result of the stop, it was determined that there was Cannabis Marihuana and Cannabis Marihuana resin in the vehicle. The driver, Stephen MERCER, 31 years of age, from Paris, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following:

Possession of a Scheduled II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and substances Act.
Possession of a Scheduled II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 1 gram contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and substances Act.
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 14, 2016.
