On the 1st of January, 2016 at approximately 0345hrs the Sault Ste Marie Police received a call with regards to a single motor vehicle collision with injuries in the 900 block of Goulais Ave. Patrol Officers, as well as Fire and EMS services responded after further information was received that one or more of the occupants may have been trapped in the vehicle. Fire Services provided extrication, and all four occupants were transported to hospital by EMS with major injuries.
Officers from Traffic, Forensic and Investigation Services are involved in the investigation. Initial investigation has revealed that a 2006 white Chevy pickup was proceeding northbound when it left the roadway striking a culvert on the east side of Goulais avenue. The pickup was demolished as result of the collision.
The investigation is ongoing, however the 16 year old male driver has been charged with 3 counts of Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Breach of a Recognizance. Further charges are pending.
As a result of the investigation into this collision, the 16 year old male driver has been additionally charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- 1 count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime exceeding $5000.00, a stolen motor vehicle.
- 3 counts of Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm.
