Time is ticking on your opportunity to see this world renowned Doctor

Dr. Temple Grandin

The Algoma Autism Foundation is ecstatic to present the woman named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in 2010.

Dr. Temple Grandin will speak at Quattro Hotel and Conference Centre on Sunday January 24 2016 at 7:00 pm.

Dr. Grandin is one of the world’s most accomplished and well-known adults with autism. She has written a number of bestselling books about autism. Her life was featured in the 2010 Emmy award winning HBO movie Temple Grandin starring Clare Danes. As a child Temple was nonverbal, easily frustrated and screamed to get her needs met. She was eventually diagnosed with autism. Her mother was told to institutionalize her as there was no hope for her. Temple’s mother refused to believe this was her only option and worked hard to help Temple become the person she is today.

Temple Grandin epitomizes what it is that can happen when you view individuals from the strengths they possess rather than their weaknesses. Temple is also a strong advocate for animals. She recognized that animals and people share certain traits like visual clues to navigate their environments. Temple has designed numerous innovations that help to reduce stress in farming animals. A large number of U.S. slaughterhouses have implemented her designs. She has won numerous rewards for her advocacy for more humane livestock handling . Currently Dr. Grandin is an associate professor of animal science at Colorado State University. She has travelled the world speaking about her passions which include her experience with autism and the behaviour of animals.
