A Grand Re-Opening. Jackie’s Hair Salon

20160210_143101Joanne Viau has been styling hair since she was 18 years old. On November 20th, 2015 Joanne purchased Jackie’s Hair Salon from the former owner, who is still part of the stylist team today. Jackie is currently away, however, enjoying warmer weather, and some down time at a tropical destination.

At the age of 32, Joanne is ‘all in’, purchasing a building and business at the south end of Korah Rd., near Wallace Terrace. Jackie`s Hair Salon at 312 Korah Rd., is part of a thriving business community, which includes Reggies West, Mini PC, and Service Grill, to name a few.

“Joanne is only the third owner of this building. And it’s always been a barber shop or hair salon.” said Laura. “The barber chairs are original from the first barbering business.”

“This building has housed a hair business since 1949” said Joanne. The barber`s chair and salon chairs were certainly busy on this day in 2016. Joanne has made some renovations and updates, revitalizing the interior, including with a fresh coat of paint throughout the salon.

An ammonia free colour line is important to Joanne. “Only carrying products & colours, that are ammonia free, support people with respiratory or breathing difficulties. We want the air around us to smell uplifting and pleasing, not something that is hard to breathe in.” When saultonline stopped by for a visit, Joanne had just finished a colour on one client and Leanne was in the middle of a colour with another client. There was no strong smell in the air, only a lovely light & natural fruity scent, from shampoo.

“Three rooms upstairs are currently available for rent.” Joanne is looking to grow the beauty parlour by bringing in health and wellness arts, like esthetician, massage therapy and aromatherapy. There are 6 stylists/barbers currently part of the team at Jackie`s. Joanne, Tammy, Laura, Leanne, Jackie, Athena.

The ambiance is casual and welcoming, and there is lots of street front parking along Korah Rd. “My coworkers are like family to me. We work well together, leaning on each other’s strengths to help us in situations that we may not excel in.” Joanne is keeping the name of the business as ‘Jackie’s’ for the time being.

A grand re-opening on Saturday, February 20th, will officially re- launch Jackie’s Hair Salon. “There will be 10% off all colours, 15 % off of all products, and $18.00 for a woman’s haircut, and $12.00 for men and seniors.”

Joanne is planning to have catered edibles and beverages from Westport Coffee Shop on Feb. 20th. “A grand re-opening isn’t complete without celebratory goodies.” she said “Cookies, muffins, coffee and hot chocolate will be here.”

Recently Joanne, Leanne and Laura volunteered their time and talents for a Scouts Head Shave and Cut for cancer awareness event. That story is here. https://saultonline.com/2016/02/4-local-scout-groups-shave-a-hair-cut
Joanne invites everyone to “Come out and visit the salon during the grand re-opening on Saturday, Feb. 20th. I think the future of Jackie’s will be bright and prosperous.”
With a team like that, there’s no doubt.
