Here is the wrap-up for Day 2 of the 2016 Tim Hortons Northern Ontario Provincial Bantam Boys and Girls Curling Championships being played at the Community First Curling Centre.
In the boys division, local curlers Team Lemieux went undefeated through three draws on Friday. In the morning game, they defeated Team Edwards from Horne Granite Curling Club by a score of 8-2 in a game that was conceded after 6 ends. Lemieux dominated the scoring with three-enders in both the fourth and sixth ends while forcing Edwards to singles.
In the afternoon game, Lemieux defeated Team Soulliere of Thessalon 9-1 in a game that was conceded after 5 ends. Soulliere was forced to one in the first and Lemieux scored three in the second and steals in each of the next three ends.
In the evening draw Lemieux gave Team Cull from Sudbury Curling Club their first lost with a final score of 5-2. Team Lemieux is now tied for first in the boys standings with a 4-1 record along with Team Cull (Sudbury) and Team Vellinga from Kakabeka Falls.
In the girls division, local Team Smith of the Community First Curling Centre won their morning game 8-6 against Team Gaudry from Port Arthur Curling Club. The game was tied after 8 ends of play but Smith stole 2 in an extra end for the win.
Smith lost a tight afternoon game 5-4 against undefeated Team Romyn from Sioux Lookout Curling Club. Smith was up in the first half of the game but gave up a series of steals in the last couple of ends.
In the evening draw Team Smith defeated Team Beaudry from Fort Frances by a score of 8-5. Team Smith is now tied for fourth place at 2-3 in the standings
Team Brunton from Sudbury and Team Romyn from Sioux Lookout are tied for first in the girls standings with 5-0 records
Two more draws on Saturday at 9:30 and 2:30 will complete the round-robin play.
