On January 29, 2016, at 9:25 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of intoxicated male that had just left a residence on Hillside Drive. The male was on foot. A short time later, police received a second call of an intoxicated male laying on the road near the junction of Pearson Drive and Dump Road. The caller assisted the intoxicated male off the road onto a snow bank and waited for police to arrive. Investigation revealed this male was the same individual that who had left a residence on Hillside Drive.

The 17 year old male, from Bracebridge, Ontario was charged and issued a Provincial Offence Notice for:

  • Being intoxicated in a Public Place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused was lodged at Elliot Lake detachment until he was sober.

FEMALE CHARGED BREACH OF PROBATION

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On January 29, 2016, at 10:04 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were called to a disturbance at an apartment on Spruce Street. Police attended the residence and observed a female in the residence who was on probation with several conditions.

The 40 year old female was arrested and charged with:

  • Breach of Probation (X2), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, on February 1, 2016.

MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On January 30, 2016, at 2:48 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), received a call service of a 16 year male that was acting irrationally. The male was damaging property at a residence on Washington Crescent and had assaulted another male.

The 16 year old male was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Mischief Unser $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code; And
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 5, 2016.

SUSPENDED DRIVER PASSES OPP CRUISER

On January 29, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, east of the town of Blind River.
At 1:33 p.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then proceeded to pass a subdued marked cruiser. A traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the stop, it was determined that the driver was under suspension.

Bruce GOLDEN, 37 years of age, from Chapleau, Ontario was charged with:

  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act; And
  • Drive While Under Suspension (X3), contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River On March 23, 2016.

WAWA MALE CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY

On Friday January 29, 2016 members of the Superior East Wawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into several complaints of multiple thefts from motor vehicles within the Community of Wawa Ontario. Investigation revealed that several motor vehicles were entered and items had been taken.

As a result of this investigation police arrested and charged Blake John KOMARNISKI (32) of Wawa, Ontario with the following offence:

  • Adult Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 –In Canada x 4, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Komarniski was transported to Sault Ste Marie Ontario for Bail Hearing.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE LEADS TO FEMALE BEING CHARGED

(JOHNSON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 31, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at 12:10 p.m., police advised of a domestic dispute that had occurred at residence on Pollard Drive in Johnson Township. The male advised police that he was assaulted numerous times by his girlfriend and she had caused damage to his residence.

The 40 year old female, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was charged with:

  • Spousal Assault (X5), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code; and
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on February 1, 2016.
