The Soo Greyhounds and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Sault Ste. Marie Branch are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during an upcoming Greyhounds home game.

The Greyhounds game on February 24th, 7:07 at the Essar Centre will

· A CMHA-run kiosk so fans can learn more about mental health

· Videos featuring Greyhounds players talking about the importance
of mental health

· Public address announcements about mental health

The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Greyhounds and CMHA Sault Ste. Marie to implement Talk Today. Announced in October 2014, Talk Today
is a partnership between the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and CHMA Ontario.

It provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide throughout OHL communities.

A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide. Every OHL team received mental health training specific to suicide
awareness last season and new players were trained this fall. Each team is also now
linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health
resources to individuals in need.

“CMHA Sault Ste. Marie is excited about our partnership with the OHL and Greyhounds
Organization. The team is committed to educating the entire organization, including their players, staff and billets. Going into our second year of the Talk Today Program, we have trained a total of 84 people in safeTALK (Suicide Alertness Training)”.

“Although the OHL players face unique challenges, it’s important to remember that many young people are also under a tremendous amount of stress and pressure
to succeed, which increases their risk of mental health issues. Talk Today helps educate
teams and provides community support to the players. I am excited to be a part of the Soo Greyhounds organization; a hockey club that recognizes mental health as a top
priority”said Lisa Carricato, Mental Health Educator CMHA and Mental Health Coach Soo Greyhounds

“We’re extremely grateful to partner with CMHA Sault Ste. Marie and to host a Talk
Today event to increase public awareness and to promote mental health in this community. By hosting this event we hope to help eliminate the stigma and
discrimination associated with mental health issues and encourage discussion within the community about mental health” said Tyson Enfield, Soo Greyhounds Manager of
Corporate Partnerships.
