Mealey Classic Downhill Ski Races this weekend at Searchmont

The Searchmont Ski Runners (SSR) are preparing for the Annual Mealey Classic which will take place at Searchmont Ski Resort this Valentine’s Day / Family Day long weekend. The races begin on Thursday, February 11 through to Sunday, February 14.

The Annual Event is named after Brian Mealey who coached the alpine program for over 40 years and continues to be an inspiration to all. Over 100 Racers from Northern Ontario in the U12, U14, U16, U18 and U20 divisions will brave the best terrain in the province with some challenging and interesting courses. Medals will be awarded to the top (3) finishers (male & female) for each age category.

Some of our own Searchmont Ski Runners will be joining in on the race action and sure to make the local community proud as they have done in the past with medal honors.
Searchmont Ski Resort is known to host some of the best races in the province. Partly because of the 750 feet vertical it offers but also because of the incredible team organizing the races and over 60 individuals who volunteer to make it a success.
Colin Wilson, General Manager and his crew are looking forward to a great weekend. “Staff have been working diligently to prepare the mountain for this exciting event. This collaborative effort between SSR and Searchmont Resort will most definitely provide for some exciting racing. We would like to welcome everyone and wish all the competitors the best of luck!”

Watch for roof top storage / ski gear toting vehicles as ski friends from Northern & Southern Ontario with their families visit us all here this wonderful winter long weekend.

The race is held on only a small portion of the hill leaving the rest of the runs open to the public. It’s a great weekend to catch a few races, enjoy the winter sunshine and ski the slopes. Searchmont is also open for Family Day! Visit Searchmont’s website for lift operating times and other promotions.
The mountain is calling.
