Outstanding Women in our community

The women of BPW Sault Ste. Marie invite you to nominate a woman (or women) to be honoured during Women’s Week, Sunday, March 6, 2016 to Saturday, March 12, 2016, in conjunction with the celebration of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2016. We are holding our celebration on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Northern Grand Gardens (corner of Fourth Line East and Great Northern Road).

The purpose of Women’s Week is to recognize the valuable contribution women make to society. For over sixty years, the Business and Professional Women’s Club has worked to improve the status of women locally. We have and continue to encourage women to participate fully in all facets of business, professions and industry. For over twenty-five years, it has been our pleasure to publicly recognize the contributions of Sault Ste. Marie area women to the improvement and promotion of the interests of women at a special dinner in their honour. One special woman will be chosen for each weekday of Women’s Week and one will be designated a Women of the Week (dependant on the number of nominations received). The honourees will be the guests of BPW Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday, March 10th at Northern Grand Gardens.

These extraordinary women will be chosen from nominations submitted by you, members of the community. Please use the nomination form that is attached. If you will be nominating more than one woman, please use a separate form for each nominee. Nominations must be received by Friday, February 19, 2016. Nominations can be submitted by email, mail or be delivered at any time (leave in mail slot) to the address below. Please be sure to include the nominees contact information as well as your own on the nomination form. The Selection Committee will make their decision within a few days of the deadline for nominations. The honourees will be contacted by the beginning of the week of February 29, 2016 so they can make arrangements to attend the dinner on Thursday, March 10th. We hope that all honourees will be able to attend the dinner as we plan to take a picture for the media at that time and hope all those honoured will be in the photograph.

All nominators, family and friends are welcome to attend the dinner. Dinners are $30 and can be reserved by calling Marlene at (705) 946-5642 by the evening of Monday, March 7, 2016, giving the number of guests and their names. Meals to meet dietary needs can be arranged when booking your reservation with Marlene.

We thank you for your time in helping us to make this Women’s Week a success.

WOMEN’S WEEK: Sunday, March 6, 2016 to Saturday, March 12, 2016

Honourees will be selected based on THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO IMPROVING THE STATUS OF WOMEN. These contributions may occur in a variety of different areas such as: in the community; in the home; or in the workplace.

Some examples are:

  • Assisting other women to cope with personal crises and/or
  • Being a positive role model for girls and other women and/or
  • Breaking into new territory for women and easing the way for others to follow and/or
  • Donating time and energy to work on the issues that are important to women and/or
  • Outstanding work in the area of social change to improve the quality of life for all people.

Please be very specific in pointing out contributions rather than just using general words of praise. The Selection Committee makes their decision based ONLY on the details submitted in writing. A resume will be helpful for background information should your nominee be selected.
We have had the privilege of celebrating the achievements of many women in the previous years and draw your attention to the honourees in this package of information. If your first choice has already been honoured, please nominate another of the many accomplished women in our community. Please note that only the final six selected names will be acknowledged and mentioned.

We look forward to hearing from you before/by Friday, February 19, 2016. Nominations will be accepted by email to [email protected], or [email protected] or they can be mailed or delivered (at any time—leave in mail slot) to 40 Grace Street, Sault Ste. Marie, P6A 2S6
