Round robin play wrapped up Saturday in the 2016 Tim Hortons Northern Ontario Provincial Bantam Boys and Girls Curling Championships.
Team Lemieux, from the Community First Curling Centre, finished round robin play with a 4-3 record. This put them in a three-way tie for the third spot in the Championship Round along with Team Silver from Fort Frances and Team Lasalle from McIntyre Curling Club. Lemieux won the first tie-breaker, defeating Team Silver by a score of 6-3.
Team Cull (Sudbury) advanced directly to Sunday’s final by finishing in first place and a record of 6-1. Team Vellinga (Kakabeka Falls) will play in the semi-finals against the winner of the second tie-breaker game of Lasalle and Lemieux Sunday morning.
In the girls division, Team Brunton (Sudbury) was undefeated through round-robin play and has advanced directly to the final. Playing in the semi-final will be Team Romyn (Sioux Lookout) and Team Horton (Copper Cliff). The local team, Smith from the Community First Curling Centre, won both of their games on Saturday and finished with a record of 4-3, just short of the play-offs.
Championship play will go on all day Sunday at the Community First Curling Centre.
