What kid doesn’t like to invent stuff?

A new event aimed at kids was one of the very first events for the 2016 edition of the Bon Soo Winter Carnival.

Co-sponsored by YouLaunch, The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and The Northern Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative, the Bon Soo Kids Invent Camp gives young people a chance to be creative and innovative and work as a team on projects.

“We’re making toys all day” Ashlee Girard from YouLaunch told SaultOnline.com “it’s like a little toy shop factory, it’s totally up to them what they want to make”  The group of kids ranging from age 7 to 13 created bridges using spaghetti and marshmallows to parachute men. The young inventors will also take a crack at making their own boat.

The all day event included some outside time, after all it is Bon Soo so the team made the head of Mr. Bon Soo carved in the snow.

“It gives the kids the opportunity to think creatively and use their imaginations and just run with it” Girard said.

“It’s just a fun day and totally relaxed”

The Bon Soo Invent Camp was a first time event for just one day however YouLaunch is looking at the possibility of full week camps in the future.
