Algoma University’s Speakeasy bar, in partnership with the Algoma University Students’ Union (AUSU), are pleased to announce the return of the Battle of the Bands on Thursday, March 10th in the Speakeasy, beginning at 10:00pm, with a chance to win great cash prizes.
Battle of the Bands is open to both Algoma U students and staff as well as the general public.
Minors planning on attending must carry a valid Algoma University student ID and arrive before 11:00pm. Participants can win one of three top cash prizes. The third place finisher will be awarded $100; the second place runner-up will be given $200; and the first-place grand prize winner will receive $400. Prize winners must be present to receive their cash award. Winners are chosen by crowd vote.
Each performer will be given a timed 15-minute set as well as five minutes to take down. No technology-assisted equipment allowed (including laptops, mobile devices, tablets, etc.). A sound technician will be on hand. Microphones, drums, and speakers will be available onsite. Participants only need to “plug-in”.
The eight bands competing will be: The Din; Jesse Merineau; Aldous; Heavy Head; Eclipse; Bryan Brown; Jack Spades; and Pillory.
The first performer(s) takes to the stage at 10:00pm with the last performance ending at 1:30am.
Admission to the event is $5.00 per person.
