It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of our mother, Evelyn Annie Bridge (Frayling), on February 29, 2016 at the age of 91, just two weeks before her 92nd birthday.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Ronald John Bridge (August, 2015). Also predeceased by her parents, Annie Martin (Connell) Frayling and Walter Stephen Frayling, and her brother Don Frayling. Loving mother of Karen, Mark (Debbie), and Leslie (Tiana). Much loved grandmother of Gabrielle (Amanda), Marc-Andre, and Ariane Laurence (Jesse); Amanda Arthurs (Chris) and Devon Bridge; and, proud great-grandmother of Jackson and Violet Arthurs. Evelyn also leaves her dear sister-in-law, Phyllis Munro, and brother-in-law, Joe Bridge (Maureen) as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will remember Evelyn for her wide variety of interests in music, travel, handcrafts, politics, the Blue Jays and Raptors, and for her love for the many dogs who found a home with her and our dad. Evelyn was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice and early on performed in operettas and was a soloist at the weddings of several friends.
After staying home to raise her three children, Evelyn was in the forefront of women working outside the home at that time. Evelyn worked in the library of the Sault Star and at the reference desk of the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library for many years.
In retirement, Evelyn and Ron enjoyed many winter vacations in Cuba and Evelyn travelled with friends to many other destinations. Evelyn somehow found the time to develop an exceptional level of craftsmanship in knitting, embroidery, spinning and weaving, and rug hooking. She leaves many pieces of her painstaking and detailed projects as part of her enduring legacy. Evelyn was always ready to lend friends and family a helping hand and an understanding ear.
To all of the caregivers and friends at Collegiate Heights, the SAH emergency department, and the Goulais Bay unit at Maple View who supported our mother with such kindness and compassion during her final days, many thanks.
We are particularly grateful for the care and friendship our mum and dad received from their long time caregiver, Norma Steinburg.
Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home and Cremation Centre on Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 5 pm to 7 pm with reception to follow from 7 pm to 8 pm.
If desired, donations may be made to the Sault and District Humane Society, or charity of your choice.
