OPP CHARGE MALE FOR COLLECTING TAXI FARE MONEY

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 23, 2016, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of an unregistered Taxi service operating in the town of Blind River. A description of the Taxi vehicle was given to police.

On February 24, 2016, at 10:08 a.m., a vehicle matching the description was observed and a traffic stop was initiated on Woodward Avenue.

As a result of the investigation, Ronald DANBY, 49 years of age, from Blind River was issued a Provincial Offence Notice and charged with:

  • Pick Up Passenger for Compensation Without Authority, contrary to section 39.1(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP CHARGE DRIVER- NO INSURANCE

(SPANISH, ON) – On February 26, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the town of Spanish.

At 2:41p.m., a vehicle travelling eastbound on Short Street was observed by police and a traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the stop, it was determined there was no insurance on the vehicle.

Michael VACHON, 21 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on May 25, 2016.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH NO LICENCE

(IRON BRIDGE, ON) – On February 27, 2016, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the town of Iron Bridge.

At 9:53 a.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 through the town of Iron Bridge. A traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the investigation, it was also determined the driver was unlicensed.

Alexander YOUMANS, 31 years of age, from Belleville, East, Ontario, was issued two Provincial Offence Notices for:

  • Speeding, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act; and
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION-DRIVER CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 28, 2016 at 5:15 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Causley Street in the town of Blind River.
Two vehicles were travelling westbound on Causley Street. The complainant advised police she was struck by a pick-up truck that entered her lane and caused damage to her vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of a pick-up truck was issued a Provincial Offence Notice. Irvin OSHKABEWISENS, 59 years of age, from Wikwemikong, Ontario was charged with:

  • Change Lane – Not in Safety, contrary to section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
