Driver charged in collision


On March 3, 2016 at 6:32 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 108, south of Elliot Lake, ON.

A vehicle was travelling northbound on Highway 108, when it left the highway, struck a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) sign and drove into the northbound ditch. The driver did not sustain any injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Derek ROBERTSON, 25 years of age, from Elliot Lake, ON was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.

Fatigue is considered to be a factor in this collision. OPP wants to remind motorists that fatigue kills. If you are driving long distances, share the driving or pull over and rest. Senseless injuries and tragic loss of life have profound impact on thousands of families.
