Domestic Dispute Leads to Female Being Charged

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On March 12, 2016 at 8:03 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a domestic dispute in progress at a residence on Woodward Avenue in the Town of Blind River, ON.  The complainant wanted the intoxicated couple out of his residence and believed one of the parties were on conditions not to communicate with one another.

As a result of the investigation, a 29 year old female, from Blind River, ON, was arrested and charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking (X2), contrary to section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 5, 2016.

Tractor Trailer Driver Charged

(THESSALON, ON) – On March 13, 2016, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, east of the Town of Thessalon, ON.  At 12:51 a.m., police observed an eastbound commercial motor vehicle driving completely in the westbound lane.

A traffic stop was initiated.  As a result of the investigation, the driver produced documentation which evidenced that he had been driving over the allotted time allowed for a commercial vehicle in a day.

Kenneth NICKERSON, 58 years of age, from Quinte West, Sidney, ON, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with:

  • Exceed 13 Hours Driving Time in a Day, contrary to section 5(1) – Ontario Regulations 555/06 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver was escorted off the Highway and ordered to take 8 hours off-duty time.

Suspended Driver Charged

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On March 13, 2016, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

At 12:36 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle with an obstructed licence plate.  A traffic stop was initiated.  As a result of the investigation, the driver was found to be a suspended driver.

Andrew BROADBENT, 37 years of age, from Hilton Beach, ON, was charged with:

  • Drive While Under Suspension (X2), contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 27, 2016.
