On March 15, 2016, at 1:03 p.m., members from the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at business in the town of Bruce Mines.
Police attended and spoke with the suspect male outside the business. The suspect threw a concealed edged weapon to the ground and fled from police.
Several attempts were made to arrest the male, however, he continued to run and struggle with police.
At 1:30 p.m., police used a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) to take physical control of the male and the arrest was then made. As the male was being searched, police found another edged weapon tied to his waste.
Steven David, LEZIERT, 21 years old, from Thessalon, ON, was charged with:
- Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the Criminal Code;
- Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code;
- Carrying Concealed Weapon, contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Code; and
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code.
The male was transported to hospital as a precaution, where he was treated and released into police custody.
The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario of Court Justice in Blind River on April 21, 2016.
