Rotary Club donates $80,000 for inclusive play equipment at Bellevue Park

The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has donated $80,000 for the purchase of inclusive and accessible playground equipment at Bellevue Park. The new equipment will promote physical, cognitive and social skills to enrich play experiences for all children.

“The City of Sault Ste. Marie is extremely grateful to be the recipient of this generous donation,” says Mayor Christian Provenzano. “I’d like to thank the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie for once again demonstrating their commitment to the children of our community.”

“For almost 98 years the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has existed and through the generous support of this community we have championed children with physical disabilities. The opportunity to provide inclusive and accessible playground equipment is a prime example of what we do with the funds we raise. We will be happy to see ALL children enjoying the playground equipment at Bellevue Park, a place where kids can be kids. We hope that our community agrees with our donation of $80,000 for the inclusive and accessible playground equipment and will continue to support us with our fundraising endeavours,” says Rod Stone, Rotary Club president.

Anticipated to be installed in June, the play equipment will be located in the northwest section of the park close to the Queen Street and Shore Drive parking lot area.

The Club’s donation will cover the cost to supply the equipment and features, as well as the accessible matting system. The City’s Parks Division will provide in-kind services for site preparation and installation.

The Rotary Club previously donated $10,000 towards the purchase of sensory playground equipment, also scheduled to be installed at the Bellevue Park site this spring.

A grand opening of the new playground apparatus will be held at a later date in appreciation of the Rotary Club’s financial contribution.
