The vision of Sault College is to provide a transformative life experience through empowering those who study with us to think and learn in progressive, innovate ways. The strength of the financial aid program at post-secondary institutions is critical to ensuring all students continue to have access to training opportunities. The Sault College Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards (SBA) committee are delighted to recognize deserving students based on academic merit, personal attributes and unmet need.
Sault College’s annual Celebration of Success night will be held at the Quatro Hotel this Tuesday, March 22nd at 6:30 p.m. where student award recipients and our generous donors will be recognized. During the 2015/2016 academic year, over $1.8 million will be distributed to approximately 1,700 students. Throughout the SBA evening alone, close to $300,000 will be given to over 225 students.
“The SBA Celebration of Success, is about celebrating the success of our esteemed Sault College student achievers” states Terry Ableson, Financial Aid Administrator and Chair of the SBA program. “The Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards night is a major highlight of the academic year. Sincere appreciation is extended to the many individuals, organizations and businesses whose support allows the College to honour students in this way. We continue to be inspired by a community who provides needed funds for our students to receive the best post-secondary education possible.”
Sault College is pleased to recognize Samantha McCormick, a student in the Child and Youth Worker program who will be presented with the Governor General’s Academic Medal Award.
Since 1873, Governor Generals of Canada have sponsored this medal to encourage and recognize excellent academics at various levels of the educational system. It is awarded to the student graduating from the previous year’s three-year program who has achieved the highest academic standing in the College in the final year of his/her program. Earlier this year, many first-year students were recognized at the President’s Academic Excellence Scholarship evening for their high academic achievements.
Each year, the generosity of donors that support Sault College students continues to grow. This year, several new awards will further benefit students including the ADnet (Algoma District Community Network) Award, Joe Cerasuolo Memorial Award, The JAZZ Aviation Pathway Award for Professionalism, the JAZZ Aviation Pathway Award for Professionalism and Diversity, David McNutt Memorial Award, Moyra and Edward O’Pallie Award, Sault College Alumni Relations Scholarship, and the Social Service Worker – Native Specialization Achievement Award – Oshki-Pimanche-O-Win. Sault College wishes to thank its individual and corporate donors for their commitment in giving our students the opportunity to pursue their educational goals and for believing in the strength of a Sault College education. This support and recognition is encouragement for students to succeed in meeting their career goals, striving for academic excellence and being dedicated to achieving their personal best.
