Owners, Joshua Jansen and Stephen Jansen, could not be more excited to share with
the community of Sault Ste. Marie their take on “brewing!”
Brothers and co-workers, bought the business in April 2014 from former owners
Dale Hammar and Miriam Karhu.
Located at 674 Queen Street East, The Wine Barrel provides locals with the
opportunity to brew their beer and make their own wine at a fraction of the cost.
The former basement brewers transformed their cousins basement into a
laboratory, pronounced emphatically as “LA-BOR-A-TORY,” with equipment from
retired home brewers and decided shortly after that it was time to pursue the artform
on a more full-time basis.
The two intend to dispel common myths associated with the act of brewing and
homemade wine making. The two indicate that choosing to make your own wine
and brewing your own beer can be affordable as well as provide a taste that is on
par, if not better than, bottles found on the shelves of the liquor store.
Novice brewers can take advantage of The Wine Barrel’s resources, which include
ample storage space, proper equipment, adequate ventilation and temperature, as
well as a knowledgeable staff.
The Wine Barrel is also one of the only U-brews in Sault Ste. Marie to offer beer
brewing. This gives potential home brewers the chance to try their hand at
homemade brew without creating a mess in their own home. In addition, a wide
range of wine kits are available and provide an opportunity for even the most
seasoned of wine drinkers to try their very own “homemade” wine.
The availability of this service is perfect for the upcoming wedding season!
Brides and Grooms are urged to do the math and realize the potential savings
opportunity that making their own wedding wine will offer!
Couples planning a wedding are urged to visit The Wine Barrel as soon as possible.
By choosing to get started early, couples benefit from having an aged batch of wine,
which will enhance overall taste.
Couples are also urged to take advantage of the additional packaged services The
Wine Barrel offers at no extra charge which include a free gift card for a future
purchase, customized labels, a meat and cheese soirée at the time of bottling, and, of
course, a convenient storage space.
