Attawapiskat fundraiser started locally

Being well aware of the recent and ongoing tragedy at Attawapiskat, there is now a campaign in Sault Ste. Marie to help the situation.

Led by coordinator Derek Armstrong, a group of Native American actors, singers, and motivational speakers are planning a trip to Attawapiskat to hold workshops, inspire, listen to and support the community members.

They have created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the trip.

In just one day, their page has been shared over 500 times.

They have raised over $1,500 so far in just a short time.

Their goal is $30,000.

The following performers have committed to visit, spend time with and entertain the youth of Attawapiskat should their fundraising goal of $30,000 be met:

  • Dakota House, a Cree actor from Manning, Alberta
  • Scott Ward, a motivational speaker and comedy hypnotist from Selkirk, Manitoba
  • Shy-Anne Hovorka, award-winning songwriter from Thunder Bay, Ontario
