Best Pizza! Apparently it’s not in the Sault!

17

Isn’t Sault Ste. Marie known for some of the best pizza recipes you can find on earth? Those who have moved away often recall some of their favorite memories of the Sault because of the great pizza offered from a number of locally owned restaurants.Or so we thought…

But apparently, according to Conde Nast Traveler magazine, the Sault doesn’t even make the mark and neither does any other pizza shop in Canada with the exception of one in Edmonton.

Conde Nast Traveler magazine asked people, as a part of its Readers’ Choice Awards survey, this one crucial question: Where can you find the best pizza in the world? The best place named was Chicago, Rome came in second followed by Orlando Florida. According to author, Daniel Young, Edmonton pizza is “old school”.

Edmonton is the birth place of two national pizza chains, Boston Pizza and Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria. But Sault Ste. Marie has always been known for its pizza and Stalin restaurants. Where did we go wrong?

Here are the 14 top cities for pizza, as identified on the Conde Nast Traveler Best Pizza in the World list:

  1. Chicago, Illinois
  2. New York City, New York
  3. Rome, Italy
  4. Orlando, Florida
  5. Naples, Italy
  6. New Haven, Connecticut
  7. Venice, Italy
  8. Edmonton, Canada
  9. Florence, Italy
  10. Palermo, Italy
  11. Milan, Italy
  12. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  13. Los Angeles, California
  14. Las Vegas, Nevada

  1. Everyone has their own preferences for crust, sauce, cheese and toppings. Even in the Sault we cannot agree on which is the “best” pizza — and that title itself is inappropriate. It isn’t the BEST pizza, it’s the one that people like best.

  2. The best Pizza in town used to be the North Street Mini mart. They gave you real toppings, like homemade ones, chunks of meat, not little mouse turds of sausage or bacon. Auroas west side isn’t to bad. The chains all suck though.

  3. Its because we are not a tourist city. People are coming here for any reason let alone try our awesome pizza places

  4. The soo doesnt hold a candle im the wind pizza wise when it comes to that copared to other cities, terrile pizza for the amount of italian restos. All average pizza, nothing special about the sauce or dough They have seemed to copy a similar recipe. What happend to good ole home made fresh sauce? Everything is canned..
