This week, the Government of Canada tabled legislation to mitigate unfair trade.
“We committed in Budget 2016 to modernizing the existing trade remedy system through specific legislative amendments. We are beginning that process which will ultimately help the Canadian steel industry to better compete in the Canadian market,” stated Sheehan.
The legislative amendments were brought in as part of the Budget Implementation Act. They will increase the rigor of dumping investigations against countries practicing unfair trade.
“Once passed, these changes to the existing trade remedy system will bring Canada more in line with other countries that are also beginning to crack down on dumping. This will help protect Canadian steel producers because we are strengthening our response to unfair trade,” concluded Sheehan.
