Crime Stoppers and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to make the public aware of several frauds.
Between March 15th and 5th April 2016 an unknown person or persons placed skimming devices on ATM machines and handheld pin pads at several locations within the city.
The skimmers were located by the business and police were notified.
Skimmers are essentially card readers that grab the data off the cards magnetic strip, they are attached to ATM terminals or handheld pin pads and harvest data when someone swipes their card.
When using your card remember to check for tampering, wiggle everything as an ATM machines and handheld pin pads are solidly built and remember to check your transactions regularly for any unauthorized payments or purchases.
Don’t hesitate to notify an employee of any suspicions of tampering.
