On April 3, 2016 at approximately 5:00 pm Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Sault Search and Rescue (SSAR) were called to assist in locating a 52 year old male in the Batchewana Bay area. The male was a client of Project Lifesaver.
Project Lifesaver uses radio transmitting bracelets to quickly locate individuals with cognitive disorders who are at constant risk to the life threatening behavior of wandering including those with Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, and Down Syndrome.
The weather at the time was not favourable. The male was located a short time later by police in good health. He was wearing his Project Lifesaver bracelet. Had police not located this person at the onset, this tool would have played a major role in potentially saving a life.
