It once stood as one of the most prominent high schools in the city. Sir James Dunn C &VS closed as a school in 2010. The high school opened in 1957 with Notable graduates of SJD include astronaut Roberta Bondar, NHL player Wayne Gretzky and the band Treble Charger to name a few. In 2010, students moved to the new Superior Heights High school on Second Line.
The high school is slated for demolition at a cost of over $700,000. The property and building of course is owned by the Algoma District School Board and since its closing it has been used for movie production and the Christmas Cheer depot.
To clear the building the board is holding an online auction of items still at the school, such as lockers, machining equipment, theatre lighting and seats. Check out the link for all the items. The auction continues until the end of April.
ADSB is in the process of obtaining funding from the Ministry of Education to pay for the demo, the board has no plans as of yet for the property.
