Young archers competed at a local competition at The Rod And Gun Club today that brought archers as far as Wawa.
Eighteen youth packed the club for the meet. It was for ages 7 to 15 and included six that travelled from Wawa.
“Many have not shot a tournament before… It’s a good way to socialize and make new friends,” said Lana Perry, who was organizing the group.
This tournament was a learning stage for hopefully the Ontario Summer Games which qualify in May and June.
They will pick six boys and six girls to go to the games in Mississauga.
It’s the first time in a while Ontaro is hosting the Nationals for Archery Canada.
By the end of August the Algoma Rod And Gun Club will be hosting the provincial championship.
“We’re encouraging the fun of learning as opposed to the competition side today.”
Perry was commenting that it is perticularly special for youth with attention deficit disorders because “it is a disciplined sport. They know what to expect. There’s a lot of kids not in sports that are good at archery,” Perry said.
