It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Iona Jane Celetti (Socchia), at the F. J. Davey Home on Saturday May 21, 2016, in her 94th year.

Devoted and caring wife of the late John Celetti and the late Albert Socchia. Mother of Raphael (Hong Kong), the late Michael (Heather), Dianne (Sister Therese)(Texas), Gloria Line (late Grant), Stephen (Jackie) (Northland Lake) and Peter Socchia all of Sault Ste. Marie and predeceased by her infant son Carson . Iona is survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents George and Florence Brooks and 8 sisters and 3 brothers. Stepmother to Margaret (Pat) Caruso, David Celetti, Bernadette (Jim) Bradford and Jo-Anne Evans (Jim).

She lived all of her life in the Sault. Her passions included singing, crossword puzzles, movies and playing cards. Mom sang in the choir both at St. Veronica and St. Gregory Church for over forty years. She worked for many years as a volunteer at The Soup Kitchen. Iona was a splendid cook and prepared unforgettable meals on all of the holidays. Mom was an excellent hostess and always had baking or other treats ready for company. She was well-loved and respected by all of her neighbours. She was a remarkable woman and even mastered the computer at age 80, sending emails and chatting frequently on MSN Messenger until she developed Alzheimer’s disease a few years ago.

Mom was a sincere woman who had a devout relationship with God. Her favourite expression was “Leave it up to the Lord”.

Special thanks go to Joanne Evans/Celetti for the constant care and attention she gave our mother ever since she was ill. “Mona” was her nickname for mom. We also would like to thank all the Celetti/Socchia family and the great staff at the F.J. Davey Home for their dedicated care and commitment.
