With the 2016 National Hockey League draft still over a month away, it was announced on Tuesday that a total of thirty five Ontario Hockey League players have been invited to the 2016 National Hockey League combine which is being held in Buffalo, New York from May 30th to June 4th.
This National Hockey League Scouting Combine is a chance for teams to get to know the players who are eligible for the upcoming draft as well as players getting physically tested in off-ice settings.
Four of those thirty five players invited are Soo Greyhounds.
FORWARD – BORIS KATCHOUK
The Waterloo, Ontario native, who is rated twenty fifth on the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Final Ranking list, finished sixth in Ontario Hockey League rookie scoring this season with twenty four goals and fifty one points through sixty three games.
During the 2016 postseason, Katchouk finished third amongst Ontario Hockey League rookies in playoff scoring with six goals and ten points through twelve postseason games with the Hounds.
The seventeen year old forward, who recently completed his Ontario Hockey League rookie season with the Hounds, spent the 2014-2015 season developing with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds, leading them to a Copeland Cup McNamara Trophy along with a Dudley Hewitt Cup title.
The 2014 Soo Greyhounds second round pick (33rd overall), also led the Soo Thunderbirds in points at the 2015 Dudley Hewitt Cup championship with six through four games.
Katchouk, who does not turn eighteen until June 18th, six days before the National Hockey League Draft, might be the first Hound to hear his name get called.
FORWARD – JACK KOPACKA
The Metamora, Michigan native, who is rated thirty third on the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Final Ranking list, finished eighth in Ontario Hockey League rookie scoring this season with twenty goals and forty three points through sixty seven games.
Kopacka, who turned eighteen years old back on March 5th, was one of three Hounds to play in this year’s BMO Canadian Hockey League top prospects game along with teammates Boris Katchouk and Tim Gettinger.

GOALTENDER – JOSEPH RAAYMAKERS
After serving his first two Ontario Hockey League seasons as a backup to Brandon Halverson, Soo Greyhounds goaltender Joseph Raaymakers will look to be the main man between the pipes for 2016-2017.
The Chatham, Ontario native, who turned eighteen on March 17th, is rated ninth amongst North American goalies.
Through twenty eight games played this season, Raaymakers had thirteen wins, ten losses, three overtime losses and one shootout loss along with a .891 save percentage and a 3.61 goals against average.
