SaultOnline.com received the following from local Speed skater, Gary Trembinski.
Today, I would like to officially announce my retirement from speed skating. The last five years of my life have been a roller coaster of ups and downs and exciting adventures. The life of a high performance athlete has been surreal at times, rubbing shoulders with some of the top athletes in the country.
Unfortunately, my skating career has come to a halt. I retire from the sport ranked at 26th in the country. Being able to climb to the top of the sport from barely being able to stand up in the skates in a mere five years time shows the dedication and passion I had for it.
Even though coaches and myself believe I still have enormous potential in the sport, as I have not stopped improving, the financial commitment is far too heavy in amateur sport.
I would like to thank my sponsors and the Citizens of Sault Ste. Marie for their amazing support throughout my journey. It truly is an amazing feeling knowing that everyone back home has your back and is cheering you on, hoping for the best.
I have since returned to Sault Ste. Marie and I look forward to whatever comes next in my life’s path.
Again, thank you for your generosity and support.
