Driver charged in highway collision


On June 15, 2016, at 2:21 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle motor collision on Highway 17, east of the Town of Thessalon.

A westbound passenger vehicle crossed the centre line into the path of an eastbound cube van that was towing a trailer. The westbound vehicle collided with the cube van’s trailer. The impact caused the cube van and trailer to flip over onto their roofs.

The highway was closed for approximately one hour and reduced to one lane. Both drivers and the cube van’s passenger were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All vehicles were towed.

Eileen VIAU, 68 years of age, from North Bay, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.
