On Tuesday, the Ontario Hockey League has announced the home openers for all their teams to start the 2016/2017 regular season, which will begin on Wednesday, September 21st.

For the second straight year, the Soo Greyhounds will open up their Ontario Hockey League regular season at home against their West Division rivals, the Windsor Spitfires, which begins on Friday, September 23rd.

The Spitfires are also this year’s Memorial Cup host team.

The Hounds, who opened up their 2015/2016 Ontario Hockey League regular season on September 25th, 2015, dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Windsor Spitfires at the Essar Centre.

On that night, Anthony Stefano had a goal and an assist for the Spits while Christian Fischer also had a two point game with a pair of assists.

Mikhail Sergachev scored the game winner just twenty eight seconds into overtime.

Boris Katchouk and Jack Kopacka, who are both getting set for the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft this Friday and Saturday, each scored their first career Ontario Hockey League goals against the Windsor Spitfires on opening night last season.

Hounds assistant captain and defenceman Colton White, who is expected to return for his fourth season, was named first star of the game on opening night last year with a pair of assists.

Michael DiPietro made twenty six saves that night for the Spits victory, and Hounds goaltender Joseph Raaymakers, who is expected to be Hounds starter for the upcoming season, stopped nineteen of twenty two shots directed at him last year on opening night.

This year, the Hounds have five players who hit twenty goals or more from a season ago that are expected to be back, including Zach Senyshyn (45), captain Blake Speers (26), Boris Katchouk (24), Jack Kopacka (20), and overage candidate Bobby MacIntyre (24).

The rest of the Ontario Hockey League 2016/2017 regular season schedule is expected to be released tomorrow (Wednesday).
