Auburn Hills, Michigan – The Soo Night Hawks competed in the Auburn Hills 18U Baseball Tournament on Saturday June 4th and Sunday June 5th. The Night Hawks beat the Great Lakes Lightning of Toledo, Ohio in the tournament opener by a score of 7 to 4 on Saturday, before dropping a 9 to 1 game to the Ontario Yankees of the Greater Toronto Ontario Area. Unfortunately after a night of rain the tournament convenor felt the fields were unplayable before the Night Hawks could compete in their semi-final match up on Sunday morning.
In the opener against the Great Lakes Lightning the Night Hawks received solid pitching performances from Zach Duchesne who started and picked up the victory going 3 innings and Noah Pearce who picked up the save going 2 shutout innings. Offensively the team was lead by Tyler Sayers, Zach Duchesne, Dylan Sewell, and Cole Wright with 2 hits a piece, also picking up hits in the 7 to 4 victory were Brennan Mitchell, Brandon Boyer, Austin Hurley, and Stephen Bos. Mitchell, Sayers, and Wright scored twice each and Duchesne drove in 2 runs.
The Soo Night Hawks then played again immediately following the game versus the Great Lakes Lightning and hung tough with the Ontario Yankees. Joe Maclean was solid in relief throwing two shut out innings while picking up 5 strike outs. Offensively the Night Hawks had hits from Joe Maclean, Braedon Whalen, and Austin Hurley.
Next Action for the Soo Night Hawks is a Michigan College prospects tournament June 9th to 12th with College scouts in attendance and at least one game played on a College baseball field.
