The Algoma Council on Domestic Violence is launching a French version of their website (www.endabuseinalgoma.com\fr). The focus of the website is on those experiencing abuse and violence. The site offers a variety of articles including Recognizing the Signs of Domestic Abuse, The Impact of Domestic Violence on Children, Creating a Safety Plan, as well as emergency numbers, counselling and shelters in the Algoma area.
The site also includes information for employers, neighbours, family members and friends. One page on the site is titled, I Want to Help Someone. “We wanted to provide assistance, not only to those experiencing violence and abuse, but also to those who care about someone they believe is in this situation, whether it be a neighbour, friend or family member,” said Chair, Danielle Ayotte. “The site also offers someone visiting the site a way to delete their history; this protects their safety, if the need arises. As a council we are pleased to be able to offer this information in both official languages, to better meet the needs of our communities.”
The Algoma Council on Domestic Violence is a committee comprised of numerous agencies, organizations and individuals in the Algoma District with the mission “to create a community where each and every citizen will live safely, free from domestic violence.”
