Masters of Social Work students “Leaving a Paper Trail” for the Soup Kitchen

A small group of Canadian students from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) will be collecting paper goods from neighbourhoods in Sault Ste. Marie over two weekends in July.

The students are in their final semester of the GVSU Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan co-hort attending courses at Lake Superior State University.

“We wanted to be able to give back to the community and once we heard that the Soup Kitchen was in need of items we wanted to help—it is what we are going to school for.  But not only are canned goods needed, as professionals who work in the field, we know that other items are needed like toilet paper and feminine hygiene products,” states Michelle, GVSU MSW student.

The students are requesting donated items of toilet paper and feminine hygiene products to be available for curbside pick-up.  Flyers will be delivered to some neighbourhoods July 4th and 5th in Sault Ste. Marie and July 18th and 19th.  If you have not received a flyer but would still like to donate items, they can be made at the Soup Kitchen located at 172 James Street, The Neighbourhood Resource Center, 138 Gore Street or the United Way, 7 Oxford Street.

We challenge the community of Sault Ste. Marie to see how long of a paper trail Sault Ste. Marie residents have made.  All donations will be given to the Soup Kitchen
