On a piece of property in northern Ontario’s pristine wilderness, Dave Zeppa is truly creating ‘Nirvana’ on earth near Poplardale.
The Northern Vibe Festival got underway Friday, August 12, 2016. Camping, glamping, and roughing it came together with vendors, medical and recreational marijuana advocates, and sounds that lifted into the sky from a versatile line-up of musicians.
Two stages were back for 2016. The Rivers Edge Stage, which is set-up along the Thessalon R., and The Forest Stage in the main Festival grounds area.
The Rivers Edge Stage featured D.J.’s and electronic music. The Forest Stage is where live music from a substantial line-up of bands kept the good vibes rockin’ and rollin’ all weekend long with support from George Ravlich and Crank Sound.
Trails cut through white pines, poplars & birch, led to areas for camping, strolling and general communing with nature. A well marked main trail with glow-in-the-dark art installations and tree lights led down to The Rivers Edge Stage area.
An ongoing mural art project took place all weekend down at Rivers Edge Stage, where large art installations were created with support from ‘Make a Living Making Art’. (https://www.facebook.com/MakeALivingMakingArt/)
Due to restrictions on ticket sales, Northern Vibe attendees could only purchase weekend passes. “Day passes may be available in the future.” shared Mana Goodfellow, Northern Vibe’s Communications, Marketing & Design Director. “We’re taking it one step at a time.” she said. Goodfellow and a team of volunteers were greeting a steady stream of people entering the gates on Friday night when Saultonline stopped by the Festival.
An incredible fireworks show premiered at Northern Vibe 2016. Created and delivered by pyro-technicians PhatBoy Fireworks Soo, the night sky lit up, while the ACDC song, TNT, pumped out the volume.
Mike and Jennifer from Mr. Nice Guy, (medicated edibles and other cannabis consumer products) travelled over 2 days from Niagara Falls to take part as vendors. Products available included ‘Hazel Nug’ & Piff, both are spreads for toast, crackers and can be incorporated into a favourite baking recipe.
Toronto’s ‘Vape-on-the-Lake’ were back again this year. (https://www.facebook.com/vapeonthelake/?fref=ts)
The Forest Stage was sponsored by Bodystream, the Sault’s first medical cannabis access clinic. ( local-medical-marijuana-clinic-opening-soon)
Planetary Pride, Sault Ste. Marie, continues to be the driving force behind Northern Vibe Festival, (facebook.com), with several sponsors coming on board this year.
Congratulations to everyone involved with organizing and delivering Northern Vibe Festival. Creating an outdoor venue of this magnitude is no easy task. It’s sure to become one of Northern Ontario’s premier summer events. Northern Vibe isn’t something you go to .. it’s something you experience. If a person doesn’t leave Poplardale feeling restored and rejuvenated, you must have slept through it all. Remember to thank your host on the way out though … you will definitely want to go back.
