Small plane crash lands in St. Mary’s River

A Quad city challenger, an advanced ultralight, went down in the St. Mary’s River Monday afternoon just east of Bell’s Point.

OPP, EMS and Garden River Fire responded to the crash site. The pilot managed to get out of the plane before is was completely submerged in about 15 feet of water about 100 feet off shore. No one was hurt.

The pilot said he didn’t know what happened as he was coming in for a landing on the water, one of the floats took in water and the plane flipped over.
