Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a 911 call in the 100 block of Wallace Terrace earlier this morning. Arriving fire crews witnessed heavy smoke emitting from the home, laddered the porch roof and assisted the occupant down to safety.
“A working smoke alarm certainly made a difference in the outcome of this fire” stated Investigating Fire Prevention Officer, Paul Antonello. “The occupant was alerted by the second floor smoke alarm and made her way to a nearby window. Police officers coaxed her onto the porch roof where arriving firefighters laddered and got her down safely to the ground”.
The occupant was treated and released from Sault Area Hospital. The fire is being jointly investigated by Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.
