Hot Topics at the 2016 Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference Included Policing and Community Safety

Windsor – The 2016 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference has come to a close, with over 1,700 participants from municipalities, the Ontario government and other organizations across the province, announced David Orazietti, MPP.

“Our government is committed to working with our municipalities and municipal organizations across the province,” said Orazietti. “The annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario is an important conference that allows us to have an open dialogue with municipal leaders about the issues affecting local communities.”

As Ontario’s Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Orazietti met with numerous municipalities to discuss safe, effective and affordable delivery of municipal services, including policing, community safety and well-being across the province, and Ontario’s corrections system.

On Tuesday, Minister Orazietti reiterated the government’s commitment to development of the Strategy for a Safer Ontario, which will help build stronger, safer communities across the province. The strategy will foster collaboration within these sectors, and others, so that those working on the frontlines in Ontario’s communities can identify areas of concern and intervene proactively to protect vulnerable individuals, keep them out of harm’s way and help keep Ontario safe.

Working with Ontario’s municipal partners is part of the government’s plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number one priority — growing the economy and creating jobs. The four-part plan includes investing in talent and skills, including helping more people get and create the jobs of the future by expanding access to high-quality college and university education. The plan is making the largest infrastructure investment in hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit in Ontario’s history and is investing in a low-carbon economy driven by innovative, high-growth, export-oriented businesses.
