The Sault Area Hospital Foundation in partnership with Sault Girls Hockey and the Essar Centre are giving the young hockey players of our community, an opportunity to show off their skills. The because iCcare All Star Skills Competition will be held October 3rd and 4th at the Essar Centre and will celebrate our community’s young  athletes.

On October 3rd, all Bantam and Midget skaters compete starting at 5pm. October 4th opens up for the Novice, Atom and Pee Wee skaters. Registration is $20 per skater and forms can be found online (here).  All completed forms must be dropped off at Soo Source for Sports on Queen Street.  Skaters compete in a minimum of two events and can participate in a maximum of four events (with each additional event costing $10). The events include,  fastest skater, puck handling, hardest short and accuracy shooting. Novice skaters are eligible to compete in faster skater and puck handling events only.  Events are open to both boys and girls. All skaters are required to wear all equipment.

The event kicks off the NHL Preseason Game on October 5th between the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes. Proceeds from this event will help support both local girls hockey and the purchase of the new CT Scanner at Sault Area Hospital. “The CT Scanner is an essential piece of medical equipment needed in our community and will replace a device that has been in operation for 10 years. It is used to diagnose everything from cancer to sport injuries. We’ve partnered to hold this event to help build awareness and raise funds to support our local care and its important role in treating athletes of all ages in our community.” Logan Costa, Development and Communications Officer, Sault Area Hospital Foundation.

PRIZES include:

VIP Access to the Carolina Pre-Game Skates – winners will be permitted to watch 2 Carolina practices from the VIP suite.

 Flag Bearers – winners will have the opportunity to lead the teams on to the ice and stand with the teams for the anthems.

Admission for spectators is a donation at the door. You are welcome to attend the competition and cheer on the participants. Let’s celebrate the skills of the youth in our community as we welcome some of the NHL’s great stars.
